The Abuja Division of the Appeal Court has officially removed Musiliu Akinsanya, widely recognized as MC Oluomo, from his position as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
This landmark decision follows a detailed and comprehensive review of the circumstances surrounding his leadership, including legal challenges that raised questions about the legitimacy of his tenure. The ruling signifies a pivotal moment for the union, setting the stage for new leadership while potentially reshaping the organization’s internal dynamics and future direction.
In its judgment, the Appeal Court also confirmed Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as the legitimate President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
This declaration by the court solidifies Baruwa's authority and position within the union, marking a significant development in the leadership structure of the NURTW. Following the legal proceedings, Baruwa’s affirmation as the rightful president is anticipated to foster stability and strengthen the operational framework of the union in the coming years.
Additionally, the court upheld the previous ruling delivered by the Industrial Court on March 11, 2024, in respect of Suit No. NICN/ABJ/263/2023. It held that the appeal filed by Najeem Usman Yasin, Tajudeen Agbede, and other parties contesting the Industrial Court’s decision lacked merit and consequently dismissed it.
The ruling, documented in a Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment under Appeal No. CA/ABJ/CV/293/2024, was delivered by a three-member panel consisting of Justice Hamma Akawu Barka, Justice Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba, and Justice Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi. The judgment unequivocally recognized Baruwa as the legally elected President of the NURTW.
The appellate court also awarded the sum of N100,000 against the Appellants in favor of the Respondents, further underscoring the decisive nature of the ruling and its implications for the parties involved.
Despite this judicial outcome, it is noteworthy that MC Oluomo was recently elected and sworn in as the National President of the Union.
Reacting to these developments, Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa criticized MC Oluomo’s actions as a blatant disregard and disrespect for the rule of law. He described the election and swearing-in of MC Oluomo as an affront to the judiciary, undermining the legal processes and the judgment rendered by the court.
During a press conference in Abuja, Baruwa expressed his determination to uphold the integrity of the union and the judiciary’s verdict. He reiterated the importance of respecting legal decisions and called for adherence to the rule of law within the NURTW.
