The 2023 Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has made a significant revelation regarding the ownership of the 753 duplexes recently forfeited by an Abuja High Court. According to Sowore, the massive estate belongs to the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.

Sowore made this disclosure in a statement shared on the social media platform X on Monday, where he reacted to the high-profile forfeiture. He alleged that Emefiele constructed the extensive estate and other properties using funds obtained through kickbacks. Sowore also expressed concern over what he described as an intentional effort by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to obscure Emefiele’s identity during their announcement of the forfeiture.

He stated, “I just heard from the grapevine that the 753 duplexes forfeited by an FCT Court in Apo belong to Muhammadu @MBuhari’s CBN Governor, Godwin @GodwinIEmefiele!”

Sowore further alleged, “He reportedly built this estate and more with kickbacks. But the question is, why did @officialEFCC choose to cover up his identity?”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in an earlier statement on Monday, had announced that it had made its single largest asset recovery since its inception. The Commission revealed that the recovered property is a sprawling estate located in Abuja, covering an area of 150,500 square metres. The estate includes an impressive total of 753 duplexes and apartments, which have now been handed over to the federal government.

However, the EFCC’s announcement omitted the identity of the individual linked to the forfeited property, describing them only as a former senior official in the government. This omission has sparked widespread speculation and criticism, with many, including Sowore, questioning the lack of transparency in the matter.
