The Managing Director of Nigerian Railway Corporation, Mr Fidet Okhiria, revealed the cause of the tragic accident that occurred between a train and a BRT bus in the Ikeja area of Lagos state. The accident resulted in the loss of six lives and left 79 others injured, according to Governor Babjide Sanwo-Olu.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, Mr Okhiria shared that based on information he gathered at the scene of the incident, many cars had stopped at the level crossing, however, the driver of the Lagos State Staff Bus continued moving forward, for reasons unknown.
Mr Okhiria added that perhaps the bus driver had thought he could pass before the train arrived closer to him, but unfortunately, he was not able to do so, and as a result, the train collided with the bus. The train was reportedly traveling from Ijoko to Iddo at the time of the accident.
