Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has publicly voiced his strong endorsement for Hon. Agboola Ajayi, the gubernatorial candidate representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the forthcoming Ondo State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday. This endorsement underscores Atiku’s commitment to supporting the PDP’s efforts to regain political ground in the state and reflects his belief in Ajayi’s capacity to lead effectively.
Atiku’s support is anticipated to energize the party’s base and mobilize additional backing from undecided voters, providing a boost to PDP’s standing as election day approaches.
He encouraged all PDP members in Ondo State to rally immense support and actively participate in efforts to secure victory for the party. In a statement, Atiku described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a “grossly unpopular party,” asserting that they lack a genuine commitment to the people’s welfare.
This statement, signed by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, was issued in Abuja on Tuesday and expressed Atiku’s confidence in Ajayi’s experience and political capabilities.
Atiku portrayed Hon. Ajayi as a seasoned politician who brings the essential expertise and vision needed not only to secure a win for the PDP but also to improve the lives of Ondo’s residents by addressing key issues in the state. He added that Ajayi’s understanding of the state’s specific challenges positions him well to implement policies that will lead to meaningful progress and prosperity for the people of Ondo.
He went on to explain that the upcoming governorship election on Saturday offers the people of Ondo a crucial opportunity to shift the trajectory of the state toward greater prosperity and development by voting for the PDP.
Atiku criticized the APC, saying that it is widely perceived as an unrepresentative and unpopular party that lacks the people’s best interests at its core. He urged the voters of Ondo to support Hon. Ajayi and the PDP as a statement of opposition to APC’s policies and governance approach, which he views as inadequate.
He assured PDP supporters and Ondo State residents that party leaders would offer their full support to ensure that the people’s democratic choice is protected and that no attempts would be made to suppress the electorate's voice in this election.
Furthermore, Atiku issued a warning to election officials and volunteers, stressing that the PDP will vigilantly monitor the conduct of the election and will firmly resist any instances of malpractice or tampering during the voting process.
Finally, he appealed to the people of the Sunshine State to show up in strong numbers, cast their ballots decisively, and remain vigilant to ensure that their votes count and are respected.
In his closing remarks, Atiku stated, “When the tide is high, it becomes too big to rig. The people of Ondo State are known for their integrity and resilience, and this election presents a unique moment for steadfast vigilance.”
