[p]Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading socio-cultural organization representing the Igbo people, has expressed strong criticism towards the All Progressives Congress (APC) for assigning the position of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives to the South-East region.
As debates ensue within the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration regarding key positions in the National Assembly, Ohanaeze has deemed the ruling party's decision to zone the deputy speakership to the Igbo community as "extremely offensive, repulsive, and provocative to Igbo culture."
