The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to honor the memory of its late First Lady, Patience Eno, who passed away recently. This honor will take place on Friday, November 29, 2024, which has been declared a work-free day to allow the people of Akwa Ibom and well-wishers from all over to pay their final respects to the departed First Lady.

In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Enobong Uwah, the government revealed the arrangements for the day and clarified that this special day has been set aside to allow the people of the state to participate in the solemn occasion. The announcement comes as preparations for the final home-going ceremonies for the late First Lady are underway.

The statement further noted, “Further to the final home-going programme of our departed First Lady, Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom State Government, in consultation with the bereaved family, has declared Friday, November 29, 2024, a work-free day in honor of our dear mother. This is to enable Akwa-Ibomites to pay their last respect to our mother at her obsequies in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsik Ubuim Local Government Area of the state on that day.”

The government expressed deep sorrow over her passing, describing the late First Lady as a devoted and caring figure in the state, and emphasized that her legacy will be remembered by all. The statement also extended prayers for the repose of her soul, adding, “May the gentle soul of our departed First Lady find repose in the bosom of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.”
