Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has reportedly passed away in Lagos, according to a family source speaking to SaharaReporters. Akeredolu, 67, had been receiving medical care in Nigeria after returning from a three-month medical leave in Germany. Despite attempts to govern from Ibadan, his stay there sparked public outrage. Recently, President Bola Tinubu directed him to hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Akeredolu's wife, Betty, suspended her 70th birthday celebrations, citing unforeseen circumstances related to her husband's health. SaharaReporters had previously disclosed that Akeredolu was undergoing treatment for leukemia, a type of blood cancer affecting white blood cells. Leukemia disrupts the body's ability to combat infections and may present symptoms such as fatigue, bruising, fever, and pain in bones or joints.
