The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, who is also an uncle to music superstar, Davido, has shared the story of how he made the decision to return to school in order to earn a degree. This decision came after facing intense attacks from the opposition following his unsuccessful bid for the governorship position in the state in 2018. Speaking at the combined 9th undergraduate and 5th postgraduate convocation ceremonies of Adeleke University in Ede, Osun state, Ademola Adeleke revealed that he was subjected to severe personality attacks and assaults after his electoral loss.
During the convocation ceremony, a total of 75 postgraduate and 537 undergraduate students were awarded various degrees at Adeleke University. Governor Ademola Adeleke addressed the students and shared his personal experience, mentioning that he had to leave the country to escape the attacks and to complete his degree program. He emphasized that his elder brother, Dr. Deji Adeleke, insisted that he must finish his education or give up his ambition to run for governor in 2022.
Ademola Adeleke encouraged the students by stating that age should not be seen as a barrier to pursuing educational dreams. He shared his own journey, mentioning that completing his education was one of the conditions set before he could pursue his governorship ambition. Despite his age at the time, he made the decision to enroll and successfully completed his degree program in the United States.
Returning to Nigeria as a brand new graduate, Ademola Adeleke re-contested the governorship position in 2022 and the rest, as they say, is history. He emphasized the lesson to be learned from his experience, highlighting that age should never hinder the pursuit of education. Instead, he emphasized the importance of commitment and passion for success.
During the convocation ceremony, Dr. Deji Adeleke, the founder of Adeleke University, also addressed the audience. He expressed his belief that if Nigerians collectively strive for positive change, it can be achieved. He called on individuals who desire a better country to contribute their efforts towards nation-building, rather than solely blaming those in positions of authority.
