Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari has returned to prison after being denied bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Abba Kyari, along with two other senior police officers, is facing charges in court for drug-related offences. The charges have brought significant attention to the case, highlighting issues of corruption within the police force.
Justice Emeka Nwite, who delivered the ruling, stated that the defendants did not present sufficient evidence to justify the court’s discretion in granting bail. He emphasized the importance of exercising judicial discretion judiciously, and in this instance, found it inappropriate to grant bail to the defendants.
This decision comes about three weeks after Kyari was granted a temporary two-week bail of N50 million, along with a surety of the same amount, to allow him to attend his late mother’s burial. Despite this temporary reprieve, Kyari now finds himself back in custody as the legal proceedings continue.
