Three Strikers Newly Promoted Ipswich Could Sign Before the End of August

Ipswich Town are back in the English Premier League for the first time in 22 years after completing historic back-to-back promotions. The Suffolk side stormed to second place in the 2023-24 EFL Championship season, accruing 96 points, just one behind eventual champions, Leicester City.

The speed at which the Tractor Boys have breezed through the English pyramid means Kieran McKenna’s side is going to need significant reinforcements this summer if it’s to stand a realistic chance of survival in the top flight. This begins with strengthening Town’s attacking options in the final third.

At present, Ipswich’s main man in attack is George Hirst, a £1.5m signing from Leicester City last summer. Hirst has never kicked a ball in the Premier League, or indeed any top domestic league, so getting proven firepower through the Portman Road doors will be one of McKenna’s main priorities.

Newly promoted Ipswich are one of those interested in signing Ioannidis to spearhead their team’s survival bid in 2024-25. The Tractor Boys are, unsurprisingly, one of the favourites to suffer relegation back to the Championship. Leicester City, who won the 2023-24 EFL Championship title, are the leading favourites due to points penalties due for financial irregularities. Ipswich Town have long held a tradition of buying and nurturing Dutch players since the early 1980s. 23-year-old Dallinga could be another clever overseas pick. He thrived in the Dutch second tier with Excelsior, scoring 32 goals in 37 appearances, earning him a move to French Ligue 1 side, Toulouse.

In two seasons in France, Dallinga’s notched 26 goals in 69 appearances. He’s a clinical finisher, which is something Ipswich will sorely need given that goalscoring chances will be harder to come by in the Premier League.

24-year-old American forward, Josh Sargent, is on the radar of most newly promoted Premier League sides. He scored 16 goals in 26 games during an injury-hit EFL Championship season. The fly in the ointment is Sargent’s current employers being Ipswich’s bitter rivals, Norwich City.

The Canaries would surely demand a hefty fee to agree to sell their star player to Ipswich. Nevertheless, he will be on McKenna’s radar, given his goalscoring rate, along with his ability to work the channels and occupy multiple defenders.

With Town expected to have a war chest of £80m-£90m to improve the squad, they may have to spend a quarter of their budget to get a new Premier League talisman.
