Jada Pinkett Smith, the renowned American actress, recently revealed that she and her husband, Will Smith, have been living separately since 2016.
This revelation came to light in a preview of her upcoming primetime show with Hoda Kotb on NBC News.
Jada Pinkett-Smith explained that they chose to keep their divorce under wraps back then because they weren't emotionally prepared to make it public.
She elaborated, "We were still trying to figure out between the two of us, how to be in partnership, How do we present that to people? We hadn’t figured that out."
When asked about the reasons behind the end of their marriage, she attributed it to the exhaustion of striving to meet their mutual expectations and goals by 2016.
Jada Pinkett-Smith emphasized that their commitment to never divorce had made it practically impossible for them to follow through with a formal divorce. She stated, "Why it fractured, that’s a lot of things. I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be. I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce, We will work through whatever, and I just haven’t been able to break that promise."
