Agbako’s career in the film industry marked him as one of Nigeria's cinematic treasures, with a legacy that significantly shaped the face of Yoruba cinema and inspired countless actors and filmmakers. He passed away peacefully early Thursday morning after what family sources described as a brief period of fatigue.

News of his passing was officially announced by the President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Mr Latin, who took to Instagram to share the somber update. Although specific details regarding the circumstances of his demise were not disclosed, Mr Latin assured the public that further information, including burial arrangements, would soon be made available by Agbako’s family and TAMPAN.

“@tampanglobal announces the passing of Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, fondly known as AGBAKO. Details of the burial arrangements will be shared at a later time. Good night father, 25/02/1923 to 31/10/2024,” Mr Latin’s heartfelt message read, as he acknowledged the legacy of the beloved actor.

The sorrowful news was corroborated by another respected Nollywood veteran, Jide Kosoko, whose confirmation set off an outpouring of condolences from actors, filmmakers, fans, and cultural enthusiasts across Nigeria and the diaspora.
