Controversial social critic Verydarkman has tearfully and sarcastically apologized to gospel singer Mercy Chinwo after being served with a N1.1 billion lawsuit. The lawsuit, dated March 3, was filed in response to his recent social media accusations against the singer regarding financial dealings with her former record label, owned by EeZee Tee (Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu).
Verydarkman (VDM) had alleged in a series of Instagram posts that Mercy Chinwo withheld earnings from her performances instead of remitting them to EeZee Tee, her former record label boss. These claims led to legal action from Chinwo’s camp, demanding a staggering N1.1 billion in damages. In response, VDM took to social media to express his frustration and financial limitations, stating that multiple lawsuits have already been filed against him, making it impossible to meet such financial demands.

In a dramatic and emotional reaction, Verydarkman recorded himself shedding tears while pleading with Mercy Chinwo. He humorously sang some of her songs and begged her to lower the lawsuit amount to N5 million, claiming that was the only amount he could afford. He also appealed to her religious side, stating that she should not allow "the devil to use her" against him.
“Una go kee me, the money wey dey inside the NGO sef no reach that amount. I know this case is not a case I can go on, so it is better I tender an apology. Mercy, don’t let the devil use you. I don’t have N1bn to pay in case you win. Abeg, I am not saying you should not sue, reduce the money, maybe to N5m,” he stated, adding that he had no choice but to apologize publicly.
The video of his emotional plea quickly gained attention online, sparking mixed reactions from fans and critics. While some found his reaction amusing, others criticized him for making unfounded allegations against the singer in the first place. Many questioned whether his apology was genuine or merely a tactic to escape legal repercussions.
