The legal representative of social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has addressed the ongoing legal battle between his client and gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, following a defamation lawsuit demanding N1.1 billion in damages.
Mercy Chinwo had officially filed the lawsuit against VDM, accusing him of making defamatory statements about her in relation to a dispute with her former record label boss, Eezee Tee. The gospel singer’s legal team has demanded a public retraction of the alleged defamatory remarks, the removal of all related posts, and financial compensation totaling N1.1 billion.
Additionally, the lawsuit requires that VDM appear before the court within 14 days to respond to the claims.
Reacting to the legal action, VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to express his views, ridiculing the lawsuit and questioning how his client could possibly afford to pay such a hefty sum.
According to Adeyanju, the amount demanded in the lawsuit is unrealistic, as VDM allegedly does not have significant financial resources. He mocked the case, implying that it was a futile legal pursuit.
“I heard somebody sued VDM for N1.1 billion, and I laughed so hard. What I know is that VDM does not have N100k anywhere in the world to give anyone. People just be wasting their time for nothing,” Adeyanju wrote.
