Popular Nigerian Chess master, Tunde Onakoya, has shared details on why he turned down a significant opportunity that had the potential to transform his life.
Taking to his Twitter page, now known as X, Tunde Onakoya revealed that he declined the life-changing opportunity because it did not align with his core values and long-term vision.
As the founder of Chess in Slums Africa, he emphasized the importance of prioritizing integrity over financial gain, stating that while the offer was tempting, he ultimately chose to stay true to his principles.
In his words: “I recently turned down life-changing money. Not because it was exactly wrong, but because it did not align with my values or the vision of who I’m becoming.”
He further explained that making the decision was not easy, as he wrestled with the idea and tried to find reasons to justify accepting the offer. However, in the end, he decided that staying true to himself was far more valuable than any financial reward.
“It was not an easy decision. I wrestled with it and tried to justify saying yes, but in the end, integrity is the real wealth. I feel liberated by my decision. I can do anything now.”
