Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has appealed to Nigerians to refrain from pirating her newly released movie, Alakada: Bhad and Boujee, sharing her experience of catching a fan recording the film at the cinema.
In a heartfelt message posted on her X page, Toyin Abraham recounted how a moviegoer was caught red-handed recording the film during a screening. She explained that the individual was confronted, and upon being caught, the person deleted the footage. Despite this, Toyin chose not to pursue any further action and let the person go without consequences.
Abraham mentioned, "We caught someone at the cinema, who came to record Alakada: Bhad and Boujee. She deleted it, and I told them to let her go." While she was understanding this time, she made it clear that such leniency would not be extended in the future. The actress stressed that she would not intervene again if anyone else is caught attempting to pirate her work.
"Please stop recording; if they catch anyone, I won’t interfere again. Please, guys, I am so tired," she expressed, appealing to her followers and fans to respect her intellectual property rights and support the film industry by watching movies legally in cinemas rather than pirating them.
The actress's message resonated with many, and fans have since flooded social media with messages of support, encouraging others to respect creators and help in the fight against piracy. They also emphasized the importance of supporting Nollywood by legally watching films and promoting the growth of the industry.
It is worth noting that Alakada: Bhad and Boujee, the latest installment in Toyin Abraham’s highly popular Alakada series, has been a major success at the box office. The film has already grossed an impressive ₦134 million in its first week, signaling strong interest from moviegoers and further solidifying Toyin’s place as one of Nollywood’s top stars.
The continued success of the film has helped boost public awareness about the importance of protecting intellectual property and maintaining the integrity of the entertainment industry.
