Notable Nigerian singer, Tems, has officially become a two-time Grammy award winner after securing the prestigious Best African Music Performance award at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
The talented artist clinched her second Grammy with her hit song “Love Me JeJe,” triumphing over a strong lineup of contenders that included renowned artists such as Yemi Alade, Asake and Wizkid, Chris Brown and Davo, as well as Burna Boy.
This remarkable milestone in Tems’ career follows the precedent set in 2024 when Tyla, a South African singer, won the category’s inaugural award with her globally recognized track “Water.” The category was introduced to recognize and celebrate African musical excellence on the world stage.
Tems' latest win further cements her growing influence in the global music industry. In addition to her victory in the Best African Music Performance category, she had also received three nominations at this year’s Grammy Awards, bringing her career total to eight nominations.
Among her other nominations, Tems was recognized for Best Global Music Album with “Born in the Wild” and was also in the running for Best R&B Song with “Burning.” Though she didn’t win in those categories, her presence and impact at the Grammy Awards were undeniable, marking yet another successful chapter in her musical journey.
