Nigerian singer and songwriter, Oludipe David, widely recognized by his stage name Spyro, has openly disclosed that he charges a minimum of N20 million to perform at events within Nigeria.
This revelation came during a recent interview with Echo Room, where Spyro shared insights into his pricing structure and professional boundaries when it comes to live performances.
The talented artist also addressed his ongoing issues with the well-known music manager, Ubi Franklin. Spyro revealed that their fallout originated from a disagreement over payment for one of his performances.
He detailed an incident where Davido was set to perform at Iyanya’s birthday celebration. According to Spyro, Ubi Franklin approached him and communicated that Davido wanted them to perform alongside him, offering a payment of N5,000 each.
In response, Spyro recalled, “I pulled him aside and told him, ‘Bro, I don’t charge N5,000. The minimum amount I charge for performances in Nigerian currency is N20 million.’”
Despite his reservations, Spyro explained that he went on stage because of the presence of dignitaries at the event. “When we got to the venue, Davido was on stage, and shortly after he finished performing, I was called up. I couldn’t decline in that moment because of the people present,” he said.
Spyro revealed that after his performance, he confronted Ubi Franklin to resolve the payment issue, stating that he had to “digger it out” with him afterward.
The incident has sparked discussions online, with many fans and industry watchers sharing mixed reactions to the details Spyro unveiled. Some expressed support for his stance on professional fees, while others criticized the situation surrounding the payment disagreement.
Ubi Franklin, who has often been referred to as Davido’s personal assistant or even as a ‘nanny’ by critics, has yet to make an official statement addressing Spyro’s claims.
