It would be recalled that Speed Darlington, known for his outspoken nature, was arrested towards the end of 2024 following remarks he made online about Burna Boy. The police accused him of defamation and cyberstalking, which led to his detention.

The singer's legal troubles escalated when, on December 23, 2024, the Federal High Court granted him bail. However, despite the court's order, Speed Darlington remained in detention. This led to accusations from his lawyer, who claimed that Burna Boy had paid the police to detain his client, which added a layer of controversy to the ongoing case.

On January 6, 2025, the court once again intervened, mandating the police to release Speed Darlington, reinforcing the earlier bail ruling. A few hours after this ruling, Speed Darlington filed a lawsuit against the Inspector General of Police, demanding N300 million in compensation for the unlawful detention and violation of his rights.

This legal move comes as Speed Darlington seeks redress for what he describes as a violation of his personal freedoms and a wrongful act by the police. The singer has made it clear that he is not backing down from the fight for his rights, and the outcome of this case could set a precedent for similar legal battles in the future.
