Speed Darlington, the popular Nigerian singer and social media personality, has been granted a bail of N20 million by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. The bail comes with one surety in the like sum, following his arraignment on Wednesday for alleged cybercrime charges.
Justice Ekerete Akpan, who presided over the case, issued the bail ruling after the defense counsel, Marshall Abubakar, presented the bail application on behalf of the singer. Speed Darlington had earlier pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge leveled against him.
The court specified that the surety must meet certain conditions, including being a Level 10 civil servant, residing in Abuja, and swearing to an affidavit of means. Additionally, Justice Akpan directed that Speed Darlington must surrender his international passport to the court and ensure that both he and the surety submit two recent passport photographs each to the court registrar.
Until the bail conditions are met, the judge ordered that Speed Darlington be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre. The case has been adjourned to March 18, when the trial is expected to commence.
