Controversial Nigerian artist, Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, has finally regained his freedom after his release from Kuje Prison.
The news of his release was confirmed on Tuesday by prominent activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju. Adeyanju took to his X account to share the update with the public, writing: “Speed Darlington is out of Kuje Prison.”

This development comes after the Abuja court granted him bail following weeks of legal proceedings. His case attracted public attention, leading to increased pressure on the Nigeria Police Force to formally arraign him in court.
Speed Darlington, also known by his alias Akpi, had earlier written a petition addressed to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Dasuki Galadanchi, requesting the enforcement of a court order regarding his prolonged detention. He decried what he termed as a violation of his rights and called for justice.
His arrest was initially linked to allegations he made against Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy. Speed Darlington accused Burna Boy of having an improper relationship with American rapper and music mogul P. Diddy. These allegations, coupled with other controversies, had kept the artist in the spotlight even during his incarceration.
Supporters and fans of Speed Darlington have taken to social media to celebrate his release, while others continue to debate the circumstances surrounding his legal troubles.
