Six people faced charges in an Igbosere Chiefs Magistrate’s Court yesterday for allegedly pirating Toyin Abraham's movie Malaika.
Presented by police attorneys from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) Annex Alagbon-Ikoyi Lagos, the defendants, namely Kehinde Oseni, Adekunle Segun, Adebiyi Sodiq, Oseni S. Akano, Mrs. Agboola Motunrayo, and Mrs. Adebiyi Suliat, were brought before Chief Magistrate E. Ogunkanmi.
They were accused of stealing intellectual property, conspiracy, and attempting to obstruct justice, as Morufu Animashaun, the prosecutor, informed the court. According to Animashaun, the alleged illegal conduct took place in January at Apapa.
To avoid arrest, Animashaun further revealed that the defendants had violated sections 411, 972, 415, and 87 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, with potential punishment under these laws.
Upon pleading not guilty to the charges, Animashaun requested the court to remand them in the Correctional Center until the charge's outcome.
However, Ganiyu Oyarevuegbe, the defendants' attorney, orally and in the most permissive terms, sought their bail.
