Nigerian TikToker Olumide Ogunsanwo, popularly known as Sea King, has been re-arrested on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the premises of a magistrate’s court in the Ogba area of Lagos State. His re-arrest has sparked fresh discussions about the crackdown on social media influencers and content creators in Nigeria.

Reports indicate that this latest arrest is linked to allegations of cyberbullying against Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). The incident allegedly took place during a live TikTok session in December 2024, where Sea King made controversial remarks that were perceived as defamatory against the respected clergyman.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time Sea King has faced legal troubles. In December 2024, he was initially arrested after posting a video in which he criticized President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun. His outspoken nature and controversial remarks on social media had already put him under scrutiny by law enforcement agencies.

Following his first arrest, he was charged with multiple offenses, including treason, cyberstalking, and conduct likely to provoke a breach of peace. The magistrate’s court granted him bail in the sum of ₦500,000, with the requirement of two sureties in like sum. His trial was ongoing, and he was expected to continue defending himself against the initial allegations.

However, during his court appearance on Thursday, February 6, 2025, Sea King was unexpectedly re-arrested and immediately taken into police custody. He was first transported to the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja before being transferred to Abuja, the nation’s capital. This development has raised concerns among his supporters and human rights organizations, who believe he is being targeted for expressing his opinions online.

Prominent human rights activist Omoyele Sowore confirmed the re-arrest in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, February 7, 2025. Sowore, known for his advocacy for freedom of speech, condemned the government’s actions, suggesting that this was part of a broader effort to suppress dissenting voices in Nigeria. Many social media users have since joined the conversation, debating the implications of Sea King’s arrest on digital freedom and freedom of expression in the country.

Sea King’s legal troubles originally began in December 2024 when he was accused of inciting violence against police officers through a controversial TikTok video. Authorities claimed that his remarks posed a security threat and could potentially influence public unrest. Despite securing bail, his situation has now become more complicated with the latest charges relating to cyberbullying Pastor Adeboye.

The re-arrest has fueled heated discussions among Nigerians, with some arguing that the government is using its power to silence critics, while others believe Sea King crossed the line with his statements. Legal proceedings are expected to continue, and many are awaiting further updates on the case as it unfolds.
