Renowned actor and producer, Ruth Kadiri, has openly criticized her fellow movie producers for exerting undue pressure on actors, particularly in relation to achieving unrealistic expectations on digital platforms such as YouTube.
The award-winning filmmaker made her stance clear as she highlighted the growing trend where producers pressure actors to achieve one million views within just a day of uploading their movies on YouTube, an expectation she described as unnecessary and detrimental.
As a trailblazer in the Nigerian film industry and one of the early adopters of YouTube for movie distribution, Kadiri expressed concern over how such pressures are affecting actors’ mental health and professional satisfaction.
She encouraged actors to resist being overwhelmed by these demands, reminding them that success in the industry is not solely determined by immediate view counts. “Do not let these producers rob you of your joy,” she advised.
Kadiri further criticized producers who she believes unfairly critique others despite not contributing meaningfully to the growth of the industry. She remarked, “The ones who never invest in anyone are the ones with the most nonsense to say about others.”
She emphasized the need for a broader perspective on what defines success in the film industry, urging both actors and producers to focus on meaningful contributions and personal growth rather than fleeting metrics like view counts.
