Popular and controversial Nigerian singer, Portable, has once again made headlines after being accused of physically assaulting government officials alongside his associates in Ogun State.
According to reports, the incident occurred at Portable’s Odogwu Bar, located in Iyana Ilogbo, Ogun State, where he allegedly clashed with officials from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA).
A well-known influencer, @man_of_letters, shared details of the incident on his X (formerly Twitter) page, revealing that the confrontation began after the government agents arrived at the area for routine assessment of regional building structures.
It was reported that the officials were conducting an inspection to check for building permit violations and issue notices for illegal structures when they arrived near Portable’s bar.
Portable allegedly made a video mocking and intimidating the government officials, claiming that he was the “town planner” of the area and that no one could impose regulations on his property. His remarks, coupled with his followers' chants, reportedly led to the officials leaving for their safety.
However, on their return visit, the officials met Portable’s father, who was present at the location. They explained the purpose of their visit and issued an official notice regarding illegal structures on the premises, informing him of the right to contest the notice if valid property documents were available.
Portable was reportedly absent at the time, but his father assured the officials that he would relay the message once his son returned.
The situation escalated when Portable and a group of his associates allegedly arrived on motorcycles (okadas) and confronted the officials. Reports state that the singer ordered his men to block the officials’ escape route and physically assault them.
Eyewitnesses claim that Portable himself was actively involved in the attack, slapping and verbally abusing the officials before they managed to flee. However, their escape attempt was further hindered as Portable and his men pursued them, throwing stones and trying to prevent them from reaching safety.
The government agents reportedly sought refuge at a nearby petrol station, where they were shielded by concerned citizens who intervened. The situation prompted an emergency call to the authorities, leading to the arrival of the police.
Following the intervention, the police arrested several individuals believed to be involved in the attack and impounded multiple vehicles belonging to the suspects.
The report further stated that Portable has since gone into hiding following the incident, as authorities are actively searching for him. It was also noted that this is not his first altercation with law enforcement, referencing his past arrest and legal troubles in 2023 for allegedly assaulting police officers.
The influencer, @man_of_letters, insisted that Portable’s claims of victimization were false, stating that planning authorities do not have the power to vandalize properties or arrest individuals. He challenged Portable to provide video evidence if his claims were true or to file a formal complaint at the police station.
It is now anticipated that the Ogun State Police Command will take further legal action against Portable once he is apprehended, as reports suggest that authorities are determined to ensure justice is served in this case.
