The Ogun State Police Command in Abeokuta has officially confirmed that controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has voluntarily surrendered to the authorities and is now in police custody.
This development follows his earlier visit to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where he was initially expected to turn himself in. After several days of speculation regarding his whereabouts, Portable eventually presented himself to law enforcement officials in Ogun State.
The singer is set to be interrogated over an alleged assault on government officials from the Ogun State Town Planning Agency. The incident occurred during an enforcement operation on his property in Ilogbo, Ogun State, where he reportedly engaged in a violent confrontation with officials attempting to carry out their duties.
Confirming his surrender, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, released an official statement addressing the situation:
“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the public that Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, arrived at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, at exactly 13:23 hours today, February 19, 2025. His presence at the SCID is connected to an ongoing investigation regarding the alleged attack on town planning officials. The command assures the public that due process will be followed in handling this matter, and updates will be provided as necessary.”
Prior to this, Portable had been declared wanted by the police following an altercation involving three town planning officers—identified as TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi. These officials were reportedly carrying out their lawful duties in Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota, Ogun State, when they were allegedly attacked.
Following the incident, Portable went into hiding and strongly denied any wrongdoing. However, law enforcement authorities continued their search for him, dismissing his claims of innocence and insisting that he must report for questioning.
In an attempt to clear his name and avoid arrest, Portable sought intervention from the federal and Ogun State governments. He also claimed to be undergoing psychiatric treatment, seemingly as part of his defense. Despite his efforts, the police maintained their stance, reiterating that he was still a wanted person.
After weeks of evasion, Portable took to social media to hint at his intention to surrender. In an Instagram story, he expressed remorse over the situation and later publicly apologized to the Ogun State government. He claimed that fear had driven him to flee, but he ultimately decided to face the authorities and cooperate with the investigation.
