Delta State Governor’s aide, Ossai Ovie, has issued a strong critique of Pastor Tobi Adegboyega for inviting Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido to perform at his recent birthday celebration held in London.
Ovie, who is well-known for his forthright and often outspoken views on social and religious issues, took to social media to express his deep disappointment and raise concerns regarding the nature of the event.
According to Ovie, the inclusion of Davido’s performance at a pastor’s birthday celebration was a disservice to the Gospel and an inappropriate representation of pastoral values. He suggested that Pastor Adegboyega should seek God’s forgiveness for what he described as a misstep in spiritual integrity.
Ossai Ovie went further to emphasize that as a pastor, Tobi Adegboyega should have considered inviting a gospel musician or minister to bless the gathering with a message of salvation, thereby creating an opportunity for spiritual reflection and soul-winning.
In his post on Instagram, Ossai Ovie expressed his feelings: “I’m disappointed in Pastor Tobi for inviting Davido to perform at his birthday party.
This event is a source of embarrassment to the Gospel. Pastor Tobi should seek God’s forgiveness for this act.”
Ovie continued, explaining that the party did not reflect a spiritual atmosphere, and he personally felt that the presence of the Holy Spirit was lacking, with the event’s nature being at odds with the expectations of a pastoral gathering.
As the founder of the Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church, Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, in Ovie’s view, has shown conduct that could be seen as inconsistent with the values of Christianity and detrimental to the image of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ovie went on to assert that as a leader in faith, Adegboyega should have invited gospel musicians or ministers to perform, thus providing an environment to encourage the gathering to turn towards faith and strengthen their relationship with God.
He questioned why Pastor Tobi continues to, in his opinion, bring moments of embarrassment to the Gospel through such decisions, suggesting that the pastor may need to reconsider his approach to his calling as a religious figure.
Ovie argued that having secular performances at a birthday celebration for a pastor sends a contradictory message that does not align with the teachings and fruit of the Spirit that should be evident in Christian leadership.
He concluded by urging Pastor Tobi to ask for God’s forgiveness, viewing the celebration as inconsistent with spiritual values: “Pastor Tobi, as a man of God, should seek forgiveness for this misstep that stands as an offense before God.”
