The Special Assistant to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has openly accused Labour Party candidate Peter Obi of being partial and biased in his recent philanthropic activities.
Omokri made these statements through his verified X handle, claiming that Peter Obi has shown a noticeable preference for donating funds to institutions primarily located in the South East, while not extending similar support to institutions in other regions of Nigeria, particularly the South West.
He raised concerns about this pattern of giving, questioning why Obi has not contributed to any institutions in the South West. Omokri further suggested that Obi's choice in donation allocation could reflect an underlying prejudice against the South West, which, according to him, is becoming increasingly evident to the public.
To support his argument, Omokri referenced a statement Obi made on the Honest Bunch Podcast, in which Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, allegedly questioned whether the Yoruba community purchases food items separately from other Nigerians. This remark was interpreted by Omokri as possibly revealing Obi’s feelings toward the South West, especially in light of how the region voted in the 2023 elections.
Omokri expressed his doubt about Nigeria's stability under the leadership of a man who, in his view, displays such regional favoritism. He raised concerns that if Obi were to gain power, his alleged biases could deepen divisions within the country.
In his statement, Omokri wrote, “Has Peter Obi donated any money to any school in the Southwest of Nigeria? What does Peter Obi have against the people of the Southwest? Why is he so obvious in his discrimination? Nobody says you must donate, but at least if you do, you should not concentrate your donations in your own geopolitical zone and exclude the Lukumi Yoruba.”
He continued, “It appears that Peter Obi has a deep-seated resentment against the Southwest. Recall that last week, during his appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast, Peter Obi lied and said Yorubas said, ‘It is our turn’, and he wants to see if they buy bread cheaper than other Nigerians.”
Omokri concluded by asking, “Is that resentment why Mr. Obi has not donated to schools in the Southwest? Can Nigeria survive under a man as partial and biased against his fellow Nigerians as Peter Obi?”
