Social media influencer Waris Olayinka Akinwande, popularly known as Ola of Lagos, has shared a heartfelt story of how he helped his father achieve dreams he never thought possible.
In an inspiring Instagram post, Ola revealed that his father, Mr. Akinwande, had never been near an airport, let alone flown on a plane. The post revealed how, despite these humble beginnings, Ola was able to support his father in fulfilling a life-long dream—something that changed their lives forever.
However, his first flight was not just a milestone but an emotional journey to a destination he had always dreamed of visiting—a pilgrimage to Mecca. Ola shared how it was a deeply significant experience for his father, as he had always longed to make the trip but never had the chance until now. He recalled, “My father, Mr. Akinwande, had never in his life been near an airport, let alone flown on a plane. His very first flight was not just international but to a place he had dreamed of visiting all his life.”
Alongside pictures of himself and his father dressed in Muslim prayer attire during Hajj, Ola revealed how he also helped his father purchase his first home. The significance of this achievement was not lost on them, especially considering Mr. Akinwande’s humble beginnings as a hardworking bike rider who was focused on providing for his family. “He never imagined he could own a single block, but today, he owns a house,” Ola proudly shared.
Once a bike man striving to ensure that his children had enough to eat, Mr. Akinwande now owns his own car and multiple businesses. Ola described his father’s journey as a powerful source of motivation for him personally. “My father worked tirelessly to ensure we had three square meals as a bike man, but now, he drives his own car and owns multiple businesses.”
Ola’s post concluded with an emotional reflection on his father’s impact on him, describing him as a constant inspiration. He said, “My dad’s story is a huge source of motivation for me 🥹. He never thought he could achieve all this in his lifetime, but Alhamdulillah 🙏.”
