Governor Monday Okpebholo, in a video that recently surfaced online, shared his testimony about the divine intervention that he claims helped him win the governorship election, ultimately leading to his election as the Governor of Edo State.

In the video, the Governor described his experience, stating, “In 2023, I came here for a testimony as a Senator, and by 2024, I contested for the governorship and won. What God cannot do does not exist.”

The individual who led the testimony also added that God uses the "foolish things" of the world to demonstrate His greatness, making the event more profound in their eyes.

However, the testimony sparked widespread backlash, particularly for Pastor Jerry Eze, the founder of the Streams of Joy church and convener of the NSPPD prayers. Critics have accused him of desecrating the church altar and mocking God by associating His name with political achievements seen as controversial by many Nigerians.

One netizen, Ose Anenih, voiced strong disapproval, expressing concern that contemporary pastors are using their platforms to glorify the societal ills they once condemned. He posted his frustrations online, saying, “God will not be mocked. There was a time when mighty men of God would speak the truth to power. Today, pastors use their putrefying platforms to celebrate society's perversions. A rigged election is what your god is using to prove His divinity? God will not be mocked, Pastor Jerry Eze.”

The video and its aftermath have led to an outpouring of similar reactions, with many online commentators questioning the integrity of such testimonies, especially in the political climate surrounding elections in Nigeria.
