Nigerian skit maker, Mr. Macaroni, has taken to social media to react to the news that Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has emerged victorious over All Progressives Congress presidential candidate and two-term Governor of Lagos, Bola Tinubu, in the Lagos State election. According to reports, the former Governor of Anambra state polled a total of 582,354 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Tinubu, who polled 572,606 votes.
Reacting to Obi’s victory, Mr. Macaroni stated that Labour Party triumphed in spite of the violence and intimidation unleashed in Lagos. He also said that people should know that power is in their hands.
In a tweet, Mr. Macaroni noted that the margin of victory for Peter Obi would have been wider if some people were allowed to vote. He further revealed that in his polling unit alone, 300 people were unable to vote. He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to do better and conduct elections properly to ensure that everyone has a chance to vote.
He tweeted, “INEC, in my polling unit alone over 300 people did not vote!! And there are reports of the same in many PU’s!! Violence and intimidation!!! If this election was conducted better, the margin of victory for the LP will be way more!!! DO BETTER @inecnigeria.”
In another tweet, Mr. Macaroni noted that the victory of Peter Obi is a testament to the power of the people. He said that the ruling party underestimated the power of the people and believed that their support was limited to online platforms. However, the reality is that everyone is feeling the impact of the suffering and pain in the country and that Nigerians will always have the power to effect change when they are ready to do so.
He tweeted, “They underestimated the power of the people!!! They said that we are only online that we are not grassroots!! They didn’t realize that the suffering touch everybody! Na all of us be grassroots now!! Nigerians, the power will always be yours anytime you are ready to take it!!!”
It is noteworthy that Mr. Macaroni has been a vocal advocate for good governance and has used his platform to call out government officials for their actions and inactions. His comments on the recent election reflect the views of many Nigerians who believe that their voices should be heard and that their votes should count in determining who leads the country.
