Singer Damilola Afolabi, popularly known as L.A.X, has opened up about the reasons behind his decision to file an N500 million defamation lawsuit against a Twitter user who falsely accused him of having herpes.
The controversy began when a lady with the username @edna_reese made a defamatory post in response to a romantic picture L.A.X shared on social media. The troll quoted the singer’s post and made an unverified claim, stating:
“Rasaki wicked herpes giver. Omo! Love and light to you.”

Shortly after making the statement, @edna_reese took to social media again to reveal that she had been arrested for her defamatory claims against the singer.
During a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, L.A.X shed more light on the lawsuit, explaining that he did not react immediately but took his time to investigate the person behind the account. He discovered that the troll had a history of cyberbullying and frequently spread false information about celebrities and public figures.
The singer also shared that the defamatory statement quickly went viral, leading to multiple phone calls and online tags from fans and industry colleagues. He stated that the widespread nature of the false claims prompted him to take legal action.
“I checked her page and realized she was a cyberbully with a fake bio and profile picture who spreads lies about people to tarnish their image. I started receiving so many calls and getting tagged online. That was when I decided to take legal action and contacted my lawyer,” L.A.X explained.
He emphasized that his decision to pursue legal action was not only about clearing his name but also about setting an example against the growing trend of online defamation.
