The legal representative of May Edochie, Emeka Ugwuonye, has provided further details about the secret affair between Yul Edochie and Judy Austin, shedding light on the reasons why May Edochie did not discover the affair sooner.
According to the lawyer, May, the legitimate wife of actor Yul, did not become aware of her husband's extramarital affair because of the deep trust she had in him. She believed he would never cheat on her, which made it difficult for her to suspect anything was amiss.
Ugwuonye added that the relationship between Yul and May started as childhood friendship, which then blossomed into love and ultimately led to marriage. May reportedly saw Judy as a mere co-worker, which is why she did not suspect any wrongdoing.
In his statement, Ugwuonye explained the situation further:
“ONE IMPORTANT QUESTION PEOPLE CONTINUE TO ASK ABOUT QUEEN MAY AND YUL EDOCHIE CASE: THIS IS THE EXPLANATION YOU NEED.
Many people have asked why it was possible for Yul Edochie to conduct a six-year-long affair with Judy Austin without May knowing. Some even question whether this means there was an underlying problem in the relationship between Yul and May all along. The truth is, if a husband and wife are truly close, the wife should be able to sense if her husband is deeply involved in another relationship. This is one of the first issues we addressed when dealing with this case. We didn’t make this issue public before, but given the extent to which Yul and Judy have tried to manipulate the narrative and gain public sympathy, it’s now appropriate to explain this aspect of the situation.”
Ugwuonye further clarified how Yul concealed his relationship with Judy, making it nearly impossible for May to detect. He discussed several psychological factors that contributed to May not noticing the affair.
“First and foremost, May trusted Yul completely. She never suspected that he would betray their marriage. They had been childhood friends, grew up together, and had an incredibly strong bond. Yul was her first and only boyfriend, and she was his first girlfriend. Their relationship was the definition of a fairytale. Second, May, though quiet and calm, was a confident woman. She had no issues with insecurity. Raised in a family filled with love and trust, she wasn’t the type to worry that another woman might take her husband away. Third, May understood early in their marriage that Yul was a movie actor and would naturally work with people of the opposite sex. As a result, she saw the women around him, including Judy, only as colleagues. These psychological factors were key to why May did not suspect her husband.”
It is clear from these explanations that May's personality and their strong foundation of trust contributed to her not noticing the affair until it was too late. However, the situation has sparked discussions about trust, secrecy, and the lengths to which some will go to conceal infidelity in a marriage.
