Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo sent a playful yet cryptic warning to his junior colleague, Toyin Abraham, during his acceptance speech at the 2024 Best of Nollywood Awards. The event, which took place at the Sugar Factory Film Studios in Ilorin, Kwara State, recognized Kanayo with a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
In his speech, Kanayo thanked the governor and event organizers for the recognition, dedicating the award to his colleagues battling drug-related health issues.
However, his light-hearted remark to Toyin Abraham drew significant attention:“Toyin Abraham, this is just some minute to 12; if you talk to me at 1 am, I’ll take you to the coven, and you will disappear.”
The actor, known for his roles in films involving occultic themes, has often joked about his on-screen persona. While the comment sparked laughter, he also used the platform to call for greater support for Nollywood practitioners struggling with health challenges.
Sharing a video of the event on Instagram, Kanayo captioned it:“Happening NOW in Ilorin, Kwara State, I was conferred with a Special Recognition Award (Lifetime Achievement Award) at the BEST OF NOLLYWOOD AWARDS 2024, for my contributions to the growth of the Entertainment industry in Africa, presented by His Excellency, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Executive Governor, Kwara State.”
The actor’s speech and heartfelt dedication highlight his commitment to the Nollywood industry and its welfare. Meanwhile, fans and colleagues have congratulated him on this well-deserved honour.
