Kanayo Kanayo, a veteran Nollywood actor, offers advice to filmmakers, urging them to create more realistic settings in their movies. He highlights the need to avoid portraying rich characters in traditional clothing or heavy makeup during regular scenes, as it can be misleading. According to him, film-making plays a crucial role in agenda setting for national development, particularly concerning culture and tradition.
Kanayo emphasizes that wealthy individuals often dress casually, and their expensive accessories like wristwatches, footwear, and T-shirts are more recognizable than traditional agbada attire. He calls on his colleagues to produce more credible and authentic movies to strengthen the industry's reputation and gain international recognition. Currently pursuing his PhD, Kanayo's research focuses on Nollywood's impact on shaping and sustaining Nigerian cultural identity.
