Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has raised significant concerns about the growing piracy issue within the Nigerian film industry. With her upcoming movie, *Everybody Loves Jenifa*, set to release in cinemas on December 13th, Funke is taking proactive steps to combat the rising trend of illegal recordings in theaters, which are severely affecting the industry.
The box office queen took to her social media platforms to send a strong message to Nigerians, urging them to take a stand against piracy. Her heartfelt appeal highlights the detrimental effects piracy has on the entertainment sector and the livelihoods of filmmakers. As someone who has poured a significant amount of time, effort, and resources into her new project, Funke is particularly passionate about protecting the integrity of her work.
In a heartfelt message, Funke condemned the act of recording videos at cinemas, labelling it as piracy and imploring people to stop as it is detrimental to the industry.
“SAY NO TO PIRACY!!! Recording short videos at the cinemas is piracy!!! Please stop it!!! Piracy is killing us!! I worked so hard on this project. Please, I’m pleading, do not be caught promoting piracy!!!” she wrote.
Funke shared how much effort and resources she has invested in the movie, emphasizing the devastating impact piracy has on filmmakers.
She ended her plea by emphasizing security measures put in place to counter piracy during the release of her movie; including the arrest of defaulters.
