Pashotah, wife to popular content creator, Kuye Adegoke, also known as Egungun of Lagos, has come under heavy criticism after she publicly supported her husband following the leak of a private video. The video in question caused a stir on social media, showing Egungun of Lagos brushing his teeth during a video call with an unidentified woman while dressed in shorts and accidentally flashing his private part [/b]to the lady on the call. The video quickly went viral, sparking outrage and widespread discussion online.
In the wake of the incident, Pashotah, who has been married to Egungun of Lagos for several years, made a public statement on Sunday addressing the situation. She confirmed that her husband had been the victim of a blackmail attempt, which involved the leaking of his private videos. In her statement, Pashotah revealed that someone had attempted to blackmail her by using her husband’s videos, which they claimed would cause her shame. She responded by stating that this person did not approach her husband directly, but rather chose to target her in an attempt to disgrace her. She further emphasized that the person behind the blackmail had underestimated the strength of her relationship with her husband.
Pashotah’s statement read, “Hi guys, someone is blackmailing me with my husband’s videos. My name is Pashotah and y’all know who my husband is, obviously I know so many people have wanted to bring both of us down including guys and girls. I always choose to ignore but I’m not ignoring today cuz the blackmailer didn’t go to Egungun of Lagos directly to blackmail him but he came to me instead cos he has a motive of putting me to shame like he said in his messages above but one thing he (blackmailer) doesn’t know is that this relationship between myself and my husband is not just built today, this relationship has been coming for over 6-8 years when we both had nothing. This relationship is built on trust, understanding, loyalty, commitment and so many more. So there is nothing that can bring us down, not even now.”
Despite her show of support for her husband, Pashotah’s defense sparked widespread reactions online, with many social media users mocking her for standing by him. Some users expressed surprise that she could defend him after seeing the explicit content of the video, while others ridiculed her for what they described as being an “understanding wife” who appeared to tolerate her husband’s behavior despite the embarrassment it caused. The backlash was particularly harsh on X (formerly Twitter), where users openly criticized her stance.
One X user, identified as #Dr Penking, posted a tweet that read, “So Egungun wife watched that video and still had the temerity to come out and defend him? I thought we all agreed that Nigerian women now know their worth. Where was she when that decision was made?” This tweet garnered attention from many users who expressed disbelief that Pashotah would defend her husband after the incident, with some questioning her decision to publicly support him despite the nature of the leaked video.
