Popular Nigerian singer and skit maker, Nasboi, has advised Nigerians to stop using celebrity marriages as a standard to define what marriage should be.
He expressed his thoughts in a recent post, following the much-publicized announcement of the divorce between veteran musician 2Face Idibia and actress Annie Idibia.
Nasboi emphasized that it is common for people to conclude that marriage is not for them whenever a celebrity union ends in divorce. However, he pointed out that many Nigerians have parents whose marriages have lasted for decades, serving as examples of lasting and meaningful unions.
According to Nasboi, the issue is not with the institution of marriage itself but with the unrealistic expectations that people place on celebrity relationships.
He said, “1 celebrity divorce and you start saying this thing called marriage is not for you. Have you forgotten your parents, who have been married for over 30 years? Stop using celebrity marriages to define marriage. If you like, don’t marry—it’s your business.”

Reactions to his statement have poured in, with many netizens agreeing with Nasboi’s perspective.
@tarikabor_ commented: “If marriage is not for them, then hookup is their calling. Oboy, you can’t help who is on the ground and not willing to stand. People need to look beyond celebrity marriages.”
@ashabul_jannah added: “Absolutely! People forget that celebrity marriages are not the blueprint for real life. Look at the strong, lasting examples around you instead of chasing social media narratives. Marriage is what you make of it.”
@patricknedu said: “Leave the wereys. To be loose guarding is their problem.”
Nasboi’s statement has sparked conversations on social media, encouraging many to reconsider their perspectives on marriage and relationships.
