Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, recently shared some insights into his process of signing new talent. During an interview with media personality, Hauwa Magaji, the Mavin Records boss revealed that he looks out for three key factors: talent, luck, and preparation.
Don Jazzy emphasized that being in the right place at the right time is also important, and that showcasing oneself consistently before and after stardom is a critical component of success in the music industry.
When asked whether he feels guilty about being taken advantage of, Don Jazzy replied that he is grateful to be useful to others. He quoted American rapper Kanye West, saying, "If you cannot use somebody and somebody cannot use you, you are useless." Don Jazzy added that being able to help others means that he is valuable.
In addition to discussing his approach to signing talent, Don Jazzy also talked about how he balances his private and social lives. He revealed that he is not comfortable being in the public eye as an artist and prefers to use social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. He turns down public speaking invitations and does not enjoy going live on Instagram. However, he said that he is willing to speak in front of small groups of 20 to 30 people for question and answer sessions.
