Prominent lawyer and human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has openly criticized Grammy Award-winning artist, Burna Boy, for allegedly playing a role in the rearrest of Speed Darlington.
According to reports, Speed Darlington, who has been known for his controversial takes, was reportedly arrested again shortly after arriving in Nigeria. The arrest is said to stem from his previous comments on Burna Boy’s Grammy win and his alleged involvement with American rapper, Diddy Combs, during the production of the album *Twice as Tall.*
This rearrest has sparked widespread speculation on social media, with fans questioning the actual reasons behind the police action and expressing concerns about the role of influential figures in curtailing free speech.
Amid these discussions, Deji Adeyanju took to his Facebook page to voice his displeasure, accusing Burna Boy of hypocrisy and harassment. He pointed out that Burna Boy, who often portrays himself as a champion against oppression and draws inspiration from legendary activist Fela Kuti, is now allegedly using his influence to suppress Speed Darlington.
Deji Adeyanju's post reads: “Burna Boy behind harassment of Speed Darlington by the police. This is someone who has been singing against oppression and forming junior Fela, now oppressing Akpi.”
The statement has further fueled the online debate, with some fans siding with Adeyanju and calling for an explanation from Burna Boy, while others have defended the artist, arguing that more details about the incident are needed before conclusions are drawn.
