Nigerian music superstar Davido, also known as David Adeleke, recently opened up about the profound impact of his father’s teachings on faith and perseverance, attributing these values to his ability to overcome life’s most difficult challenges.
In a heartfelt conversation during a podcast interview with Rollingout, the award-winning artist reflected on his upbringing in a deeply Christian household. Davido shared that his father, Dr. Deji Adeleke, a successful businessman and church elder, played a pivotal role in shaping his perspective on life’s trials and triumphs.
According to the singer, his father’s unwavering faith and religious values were instrumental in helping him navigate both personal and professional obstacles. Davido shared candidly about his journey and the life lessons passed down by his father.
“My dad is very successful, but he’s also an elder in the church. I grew up as a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and my early education was rooted in Christian values, as I attended a Christian college,” Davido began.
He continued, “Throughout my life, I’ve faced numerous challenges. At first, I didn’t fully understand my dad’s teachings, and honestly, there were times I felt anger and frustration. I would often question, ‘Why do bad things happen to good people?’ But my dad would always say, ‘You can’t question God.’”
Davido admitted that it took time for this wisdom to resonate with him. “Initially, I didn’t get it. But looking back now, it all makes sense. A year after the tragic loss of my son, Ifeanyi, my wife and I were blessed with twins. Around the same time, I released the biggest album of my career and received my first Grammy nominations. These blessings came at a time when I thought I couldn’t recover, and it showed me that God truly has a plan.”
The singer went on to encourage others to hold on to their faith in the face of adversity. “People go through different challenges, but one thing I’ve learned is to trust that God has your back. Life may not always make sense in the moment, but with faith, you’ll see the bigger picture unfold,” Davido added.
