X influencer, Daniel Regha, has given a word of advice to parents, urging them to desist from the habit of questioning their children about when or if they plan to get married.
In a tweet shared on his social media platform on Wednesday, the social commentator explained that such inquiries often leave a negative impact on the children’s emotional and psychological well-being.
Regha further highlighted the need for parents to embrace their children's choices, especially when it comes to relationships, adding that they should also stop disapproving of the ethnic background of their children’s partners.
According to him, the way relationships and marriages were approached in the 1980s is vastly different from the practices and norms in modern times. He pointed out that times have changed, and parents need to adapt to the evolving societal dynamics.
In his words, “Dear parents, stop asking ur child(ren) if/when they’re getting married, and stop disapproving of any ethnicity. Such behaviour push people into making the wrong choices. Relationships of the 80s isn’t the same as the 2020s.”
Regha’s tweet has sparked discussions online, with many agreeing that societal expectations surrounding marriage often lead to undue pressure and hasty decisions in relationships.
The influencer’s advice serves as a reminder for parents to create a supportive and understanding environment for their children’s personal and emotional growth.
