Nigerian comedian, AY Makun, has shared his reaction to the events that occurred in Lagos during the recently-concluded Presidential and Governorship elections. The electoral process in Lagos was reportedly marred by tribal discrimination and bigotry, with many Igbos and those not planning to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) allegedly prevented from voting in some polling units in the state. Additionally, there was tribal tension and conflict between some Yoruba and Igbo individuals on social media following the gubernatorial election on March 18th.
In response to the tribal conflict, AY Comedian took to [a href="https://www.twitter.com/yabaleftonline"]Twitter[/a] and posed a question about what individuals in inter-tribal marriages, specifically Yoruba men married to Igbo women, should do about their partners and children. AY, who is married to a Delta-born woman named Mabel, also threw a subtle jab at Nigerian politician Femi Fani-Kayode, who has been a vocal supporter of the tribal war.
AY tweeted,
“Now that the elections are officially ‘over’ in Lagos State, I am sure all these talks about BIGOTS & MAGGOTS will end on the lips of some COCONUT heads like the FOOLISH FEDERAL KOLA-NUT (FFK) seekers. You should tell us what you want us Yoruba boys to do with our Igbo wives and children. I just feel weak. I don’t feel like a Nigerian anymore. The national anthem is so heavy on my mouth now.”
AY's post has since garnered reactions from various individuals, with some agreeing with his sentiments and others expressing concern over the current state of tribal relations in Nigeria.
