Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has officially surrendered himself to the Police after being declared wanted over an alleged case of assault.
The singer, who was declared wanted by the police on Monday, voluntarily turned himself in today at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba, Lagos, in compliance with law enforcement directives.
According to police sources, he is currently being transported to Ogun State, where he will be officially handed over to the state police command for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
Recall that earlier this week, Portable made headlines after releasing a video in which he claimed to be a “madman” receiving treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta. His statement was seen as a desperate attempt to evade arrest following his declaration as a wanted suspect.
The controversy surrounding Portable stems from an alleged incident in which he reportedly assaulted three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office. The officials had reportedly visited a location linked to the singer for official duties when the alleged assault occurred.
Following the incident, the Ogun State Police Command issued a public statement declaring Portable wanted, prompting a wave of discussions and debates among Nigerians regarding the singer’s conduct and frequent run-ins with the law.
This latest development has sparked a mix of reactions from fans and critics, with some expressing support for the singer while others believe he should face the full weight of the law for his alleged actions.
