Nollywood actor and comedian, AY Makun, has come forward to address the rumors suggesting he shaded female colleagues. These rumors arose after the entertainer expressed his disappointment over the perceived lack of support from male colleagues in the industry.
Gistreel previously reported that AY Makun, who recently premiered his movie ‘The Waiter,’ took to social media to air his grievances about the lack of backing from his fellow male actors. This move sparked a wave of online discussions, with many speculating that his remarks indirectly targeted Nollywood actresses, especially given their recent successes and major milestones in the industry.
However, AY Makun took to social media to address these speculations and clarify his intentions. Via a tweet on X (formerly Twitter), the father of two made it clear that his earlier post was not aimed at discrediting or shading any hardworking actresses in the Nollywood industry.
He reiterated his support and encouragement for female colleagues, stating that they continue to have his backing. Instead, he redirected attention to the lack of camaraderie among male actors, highlighting his frustration with their unwillingness to promote projects they have worked on, even when they have signed contracts and received payments for their roles.
In his tweet, AY emphasized the importance of men supporting one another in the industry, sharing his perspective on the challenges of navigating such situations. He explained that it shouldn’t be a struggle to ask male colleagues for promotional support for a film they’re part of, especially when he has consistently supported others in the same way.
His tweet reads: “And I repeat, ‘WEY TIN MAN DO MAN?’ Begging your fellow male actors to join you in promoting your film shouldn’t be a big deal. Especially when I have always been doing the same for everyone. Do you know how frustrating it is to pay actors who end up promoting other films and abandoning the one that they are in… EVEN with signed contracts?”
“My last tweet has nothing to do with the hardworking women who are winning in the industry, as they all have my full support and encouragement to date. MEN SHOULD ALSO SUPPORT MEN.”
The clarification appears to have resonated with many, sparking further discussions on the importance of unity and mutual encouragement among male colleagues in Nollywood.
