The highly anticipated 67th Grammy Awards has once again delivered an electrifying night, filled with celebration, surprises, and outstanding performances. However, it was a bittersweet moment for Nigerian music fans as some of the country's biggest stars, including Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, missed out on securing wins despite their nominations. Meanwhile, Tems stole the spotlight, solidifying her place as a two-time Grammy Award winner.
The 67th Grammy Awards, held on February 2nd, took place at the prestigious Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. As always, the event brought together the biggest names in the global music industry, with breathtaking performances and unforgettable award moments.
The competition was fierce in several categories, especially in the newly established Best African Music Performance category, where Nigerian superstars like Davido, Wizkid, Asake, and Yemi Alade were nominated. Unfortunately, none of them secured a win.
Instead, Tems claimed victory in this category with her hit song “Love Me JeJe,” marking a historic second Grammy win for the talented singer-songwriter. Her triumph was a proud moment for Nigerian and African music lovers worldwide.
Apart from her victory in the Best African Music Performance category, Tems had also been nominated in two other categories: Best Global Music Album for “Born in the Wild” and Best R&B Song for “Burning.” Though she didn’t win in those categories, her multiple nominations further cement her influence in the international music scene.
The Grammy Awards also saw wins from global icons in different categories, including a historic moment for Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and several other artists who made significant impacts in the industry throughout the past year.
